You have to start somewhere
At Tiny Pride we speak with a lot of businesses who make a lot of assumptions about their culture and capacity when it comes to LGBTIQA+ inclusion. What we’ve found after delivering inclusion workshops for over two years is that there’s lots that people don’t know and some of those things can have terrible repercussions for an organisation including reputation damage and ill will with community.
LGBTIQA+ inclusion doesn’t happen by accident, it takes time and some careful preparation to be an organisation that’s really inclusive on any given day. We believe that you start with strong foundations and that means ensuring that everyone has the same base knowledge.
With our training, we ask some pretty big questions that challenge the assumptions you might have. From the basics around how you celebrate days of significance to getting you to reflect on how LGBTIQA+ community might know you’re a safe place to work, to shop, to learn?
For organisations that are large and with lots of customer facing services, we really love what the Rainbow Tick delivers - a comprehensive, integrated, multi-domain approach to inclusion. It’s a very strong signal that when someone accesses your services that they’ll be safe and that their identity will be respected and considered as part of their journey.
For small and medium business, you won’t need the Rainbow Tick. But that doesn’t mean that the approach doesn’t work. What we mean by that is that we understand that’s necessary to make change for your organisation and that’s where we’ll get you to focus.
We can help to:
upskill your workforce in learning about sexuality and gender, the LGBTIQA+ acronym and pronouns
check your policies to make sure they’re inclusive
review your communications strategy and marketing campaigns
do an environment scan of your building/work environment/shop space
provide you with some strategic direction on improving your relationship with LGBTIQA+ community
We can then help you to bring it all together with recommendations about how you can get started.
It’s always best to build up to the big changes, getting some quick wins and delivering small changes that will give you confidence to keep going.
The very good news about all of these things is that if you do want to get your Rainbow Tick, all of the above can be mapped and used as evidence.
